The last astounding innovation in club music, the sub-genre Gqom, was born in the city of Durban, South Africa. Turning the globe slightly to the left we let Shanghai present a new sound aesthetic, holding it right under the white nose of the post-rave community. The SVBKVLT label is currently gathering a number of Chinese producers cultivating a sound new to Western Ears (finding their way there with a little help from KODE9). «Feels like hearing Aphex Twin for the first time back in the day» wrote someone on 33EMYBW’s bandcamp site. But ultimately it is Jlin’s interpretation of footwork that should take most credit as a role model for the producer 33EMYBW.
