Big Joanie is a black feminist punk band from London, based on an 80’s DIY attitude and the 90’s Riot Grrrl vibes. Their sound is filigree and sophisticated, but at the same time comes across raw and genuine. The trio probably draws its strength from its community work: all three musicians are committed activists, for example taking part in the Decolonise Fest, a «Festival for Punks of Color», coaching the Girls Rock London program, and launching the «Stop Rainbow Racism» campaign to stop racist performances in LGBTQIA+ locations.
