OOIOO is a side project founded in 1995 by the drummer of the boredoms Yoshimi, who also happens to be the subject of possibly the most important record of the Flaming Lips, “Yoshimi battles the pink robots”. It’s probably unnecessary to point out that Japanese bands are usually a tad more unconventional and radical then their western counterparts. In the same fashion the songs of OOIOO channel a ghost of ingenious dilettantism, DIY-punk-attitude and free-spirited avant-garde, towards a often tribal noise pop.
