Kein Mensch ist eine Insel, sang einstmals Jon Bon Jovi. Das trifft für Stanley Brinks nicht zu. Seit über einem Jahrzehnt treibt jener, der früher eine der guten Hälften von Herman Düne war, in eigenem Rhythmus um die Welt. Eine eigenwillige Persönlichkeit in einer, nach seinem Geschmack, zu stark formatierten Welt der Folk-Musik. Dieser Songwriter mit einem Faible für Jonathan Richman ist mit seinem Lo-fi, DIY und Art-Brut nicht desto mehr eine menschenleere Insel. Im Gegenteil: Er arbeitet an vielen gemeinsamen Projekten mit Gruppen wie The Freschard oder noch The Wave Pictures und produziert dabei exotische und einzigartige Inselgruppen, <<Islands in the sun>>, wie er sie auf einer seiner letzten Platten besingt. Er wird uns an jedem Kilbiabend einige musikalische Postkarten feilbieten. Nul homme n'est une île, chantait Jon Bon Jovi. C'était compter sans Stanley Brinks. Celui qui fut un jour une bonne moitié d'Herman Düne dérive à son rythme depuis une grosse dizaine d'années, personnalité singulière dans un monde folk trop formaté à son goût. Lo-fi, DIY, art-brutiste, mais pop avant tout, ce songwriter ascendance Jonathan Richman n'en est pas pour autant une île déserte. Au contraire, il multiplie les projets et les collaborations, de The Freschard à The Wave Pictures, façonnant des archipels exotiques et uniques, des « Islands in the sun » comme il le chante sur l'un de ses derniers disques, dont il donnera à voir quelques cartes postales musicales tous les soirs du festival. Bon Jovi once sang “No man is an island“. This doesn’t apply for Stanley Brinks though. The guy who use to be one of the good half’s of Herman Düne, has been traveling the world to his own beat for over a decade now. A headstrong personality in a, according to his own taste, too heavily formatted world of folk music. Yet as a songwriter with a weakness for Jonathan Richman, he is anything but a deserted island with his lo-fi, DIY and art-brute.To the contrary, he has collaborated with many other groups like The Freschard or the Wave Pictures and so all these islands of artists become an exotic island group, or as he calls it “islands in the sun” in his last album. He will send us all postcards on that warm Kilbi night.
