Als Angel Olsen letztes Jahr mit Bonnie „Prince“ Billy im Bad Bonn zu Gast war, soll sie sich – so die Legende – Duex mit den Worten „I am Beyoncé“ vorgestellt haben. Was im Prinzip die perfekte Beschreibung des Gegenteils ihrer selbst ist. Angel Olsen packt in ihren brüchigen Folk-Rock ein Maximum an Befindlichkeit und verkörpert damit die Antithese zur teflonbeschichteten Hochglanzwelt eines Popsternchens. Hier gehts ums Eingemachte, das macht uns Angel Olsen im karg instrumentierten Song „White Fire“ vom überirdisch guten neuen Album „Burn Your Fire For No Witness“ klar, wenn sie mit betörender Stimme singt „Everything is tragic, it all just falls apart“. Dass sie nicht nur den tieftraurigen Folk, sondern auch den Rock mit garagigem Touch beherrscht, beweist die Single „Hi-Five“, mit einem weiteren textlichen Einstieg für die Ewigkeit: „I feel so lonesome I could cry. But instead I pass the time sitting lonely with somebody lonely too. There’s nothing in the world I’d rather do.“ Welcher Mensch, der bei Sinnen ist, möchte daraufhin nicht gemeinsam mit Angel Olsen einsam sein?
Si l’on en croit la légende, l’année dernière alors que Angel Olsen tournait avec Bonnie « Prince » Billy, elle se serait présentée à Duex en ces termes : « I’m Beyoncé ». Ce qui se révèle être en fait une description pertinente de son parfait contraire. Angel Olsen intègre à sa Folk-Pop fragile un maximum de sensibilité et incarne par là même l’antithèse de la brillante star de la pop blindée au téflon. Avec sa voix envoûtant, Angel Olsen ne va qu’à l’essentiel. Elle l’explicite avec les paroles « Everything is tragic, it all just falls apart » dans la chanson à l’accompagnement instrumental léger : « White Fire » que l’on trouve sur son dernier album aux sonorités surnaturelles : « Burn Your Fire For No Witness ». Mais la jeune femme ne se cantonne pas à la folk profondément triste et maîtrise tout aussi bien le rock avec une touche garage, ainsi qu’il est prouvé dans le morceau « Hi-Five », avec une autre phrase à inscrire dans les annales : « I feel so lonesome i could cry. But instead i pass the time sitting lonely with someone lonely too. There’s nothing in the world i’d rather do. » Quel homme sensé ne voudrait alors pas immédiatement passer quelques temps « seul » avec Angel Olsen ?

This is basically the exact description of the opposite of her character. Angel Olsen puts a maximum of sensitivities into her crumbly folk-rock and thus is the antithesis of a Teflon coated, high-end class, world of a pop star. That’s the stuff, and Angel Olsen proves it in a sparsely instrumental song “White Fire” from the fantastic new album “Burn Your Fire For No Witness”. She sings “Everything is tragic, it all just falls apart.” She not only masters deeply sorrowful folk, but also rock with a garage touch and proves so with the single “Hi-Five” with another lyrical introduction for eternity: “I feel so lonesome I could cry. But instead I pass the time sitting lonely with somebody lonely too. There’s nothing in the world I’d rather do.“ Who wouldn’t want to be lonely together with Angel Olsen?
