Familienaufstellung. Da wären: Hüsker Dü als Väter im Geist. Sonic Youth als coole Onkel. Fugazi als cleverer Cousin. Dinosaur Jr. als verschrobener Bruder. Mittendrin: Superchunk, diese supersympathische musikalische Verkörperung des Guten. Ausgestattet mit einer grossen Portion jugendlichem Elan spielt sich die Band seit 1989 in die Herzen alternativer Musikfans und beackert ihr eigenes Gärtchen zwischen Indie-Rock, Power-Pop, Post-Hardcore und College-Punk. Unprätentiös, humorvoll und DIY to the bones, mit eigenem Label seit 1989 (Merge Records, heute mit Spoon oder Arcade Fire einer der wichtigsten US-Indies). Dass dieser makellosen Karriere auch eine fast 10-jährige Pause nichts anhaben konnte und die Band letztes Jahr mit „I Hate Music“ ihr bestes Album veröffentlicht hat, macht die Geschichte von Superchunk noch beeindruckender. Nun endlich der erste Auftritt an der Kilbi, die Vorfreude ist immens.

Au milieu cela : Superchunck, une incarnation super sympathique de tout ce qu’il y a de meilleur. Mené par un gros élan juvénile, le groupe danse depuis 1989 dans le cœur des mélomanes et s’y aménage un petit jardin cultivant de l’indie-rock, de la power pop, du post-hardcore et du collège-punk. Sans prétentions, pleins d’humour et DIY jusqu’à la moelle, produits par leur propre label depuis les débuts (Merge Records, une référence actuelle avec notamment Spoon et Arcade Fire). Qu’une carrière sans taches ait amené Superchunck à observer une pause de près de 10 ans avant de sortir un de ses meilleurs albums l’an dernier (« I Hate Music ») ne fait que rendre l’histoire du groupe encore plus fascinante ! En tout cas, à la Kilbi on se réjouit immensément de leur premier concert en terre singinoise.

In the middle there’s Superchunk, this super nice incarnation of “the good”. Equipped with a good deal of juvenile impetus, the band has been playing itself right into the hearts of alternative music fans. They plant their own garden between indie rock, power pop, post hardcore and college punk. Unpretentious, with a good sense of humor and DIY to the bones, with their own label since 1989 (Merge Records, today with Spoon or Arcade Fire one of the big shots in the US indie scene). Not even a break of 10 years could do any harm to this impeccable career. The fact that the band released “I Hate Music” (their best album so far) only last year, is just the cherry on the icing. Finally, their first gig at the Kilbi, - and the anticipation is massive.
