If you call Switzerland a stronghold of reggaeton, you might just as well claim that Lake Schiffenen (tn: little lake right beside the Kilbi festival site) is the Caribbean Sea. Which puts us geographically in the right latitudes: the sound, shaped by the dembow rhythm, has its origins in Puerto Rico. The fact that the two Swiss musicians Reypharaoh and Amos a la Playa have internalised this physical sound so much is probably also due to their roots: on the one hand, these are in Jamaica, Peru and Cameroon, and on the other hand, in Latin trap, cloud rap and the left-field scene of reggaeton. Since Damelove is released on Präsens Records, the in-house label of the cult publication zweikommasieben, Kilbi visitors can safely assume that we are dealing with a particularly tasteful reggaeton duo.
